J.O.Sims have been using Long Life Solutions (LLS) MA liner bags for various type of fresh fruit since the start of the year. Trials were conducted with sweet melons by sea from Costa Rica which improved the overall condition of the fruit. This was followed up with further trials of Indian Grapes by sea in March. This trial showed little difference on arrival but after 10 days of storage at our Spalding Depot it became apparent that the LLS liner improved the condition of the fruit by keeping the stems green and fresh and the berries crisp and firm. Following this second trial we felt confident enough to recommend the LLS liner to our Turkish supplier. All of his cherries were packed in this way and we believe that the improved condition of the fruit compared to previous years can be directly attributed to the liner bags. Extensive trials are being conducted at present to assess the performance of the Cherries when subjected to temperature abuse - such as produce shipped by air. Cherries packed in a range of MA liners are currently being assessed. So far the LLS liner is comparable if not slightly better than the best in this trial.

We are convinced that LLS liner bags can make a significant contribution to maintaining the condition of fresh produce both in transit and storage. We will continue to trial different products in the LLS liner and will recommend its use to our grape, melon and cherry suppliers throughout the world.

We have found LLS to be most helpful in supplying bags for trial purposes and we will continue to look forward to working with them in our quest to supply the freshest and best quality fruits to our supermarket customers.
