Tree ripened fruit packed at source and then
suspend any further ripening post
harvest by placing the fruit in the bags (in both
loose and tray formats).
The bags would then be opened up at either
depot or store level and the ripening
would continue.
Our results have shown that the bagged nectarines
have a longer life once the
bag is opened than fruit without the bag.
By day 2 / 3 the fruit not packed in 'smart bags'
is showing heavy shrivel and dullness whereas the fruit in bags is brighter
and firmer.
